MANUFACTURERS GOING DIRECT

Amazon and Ecommerce for Manufacturers Going Direct

Selling direct should add a channel, not start a fight with your distributors. We help manufacturers take control of their Amazon listings, pricing and resellers, sell on their own site and other marketplaces, and ship it all from our own warehouse in Kansas City.

WHAT MANUFACTURERS RUN INTO

Why Going Direct Is Harder for Manufacturers

A consumer brand launching on Amazon worries about ads and reviews. A manufacturer has all of that plus a channel of partners watching every price.

Channel conflict

Your distributors and retail partners built your business. Selling direct on Amazon or your own site can look like competing with them, and a price gap between channels can cost you a shelf.

MAP and price erosion

Amazon does not enforce your MAP (minimum advertised price) policy. When one reseller drops the price, Amazon's pricing pulls others down with it, and your retail partners call you about it.

Unauthorized sellers

Product leaks from distributors, liquidators and overseas markets onto Amazon. Unauthorized sellers take the Buy Box, ship poorly and leave reviews on your brand.

1P vs 3P

Vendor Central (1P, where Amazon buys from you wholesale) and Seller Central (3P, where you sell directly) trade price control, margin and data very differently. Many manufacturers end up in the wrong one by default.

Catalog control

Resellers and Amazon itself edit your listings. Wrong images, wrong specs, duplicate pages and, since July 2026, titles over 75 characters being rewritten automatically.

Distributor relations

Some of your distributors may already sell on Amazon. Going direct without a plan for them damages relationships you still need for the rest of the business.

WHAT WE DO

How We Take a Manufacturer Direct

We manage Amazon, your own site, TikTok Shop and Walmart as one team, so the plan for one channel does not undercut another.

A channel map before launch

We decide with you which products go direct, which stay with retail and distribution, and which get Amazon-only pack sizes or bundles so shoppers are not comparing the same item at two prices.

You go direct with a plan your sales team can explain to partners.

MAP policy and enforcement

We monitor pricing across Amazon and other marketplaces, document violations, and run the notice and follow-up process with your resellers. Anything legal goes to your counsel with the evidence already gathered.

Price stays consistent, so retail partners keep trusting it.

An authorized seller program

We help you define who is allowed to sell where, move toward a single authorized seller on Amazon where that makes sense, and trace where leaked inventory is coming from.

An honest 1P vs 3P decision

Vendor Central gives Amazon control of retail price in exchange for purchase orders. Seller Central keeps price, inventory and customer data in your hands. We lay out the tradeoffs for your products, including hybrid setups.

Catalog control and Brand Registry

We enroll you in Amazon Brand Registry, clean up duplicate and incorrect listings, lock down the fields that matter and rewrite titles and content to current Amazon rules.

A role for your distributors

Online sell-through data becomes something you share with retail buyers, not something you hide. Distributors can keep wholesale and B2B accounts while the brand owns the consumer listing.

Guides for Manufacturers Selling Direct

Common Questions

Will selling on Amazon upset my distributors and retailers?
It can if you launch without a plan. We map which products go direct, keep prices consistent across channels and give partners a clear role. Many manufacturers find the bigger threat is unauthorized sellers already listing their products, and taking control of the listing protects partners too.
Should a manufacturer use Vendor Central or Seller Central?
It depends on how much price control and data you need. Vendor Central (1P) means Amazon buys wholesale and sets the retail price. Seller Central (3P) keeps pricing, inventory and customer data with you. Many manufacturers that care about MAP choose Seller Central or a hybrid.
Does Amazon enforce MAP pricing?
No. Amazon does not enforce minimum advertised price policies. You enforce your MAP policy through your agreements with resellers, backed by monitoring and a consistent notice process. We run that process and hand anything legal to your counsel.
How do we stop unauthorized sellers on Amazon?
Start with Amazon Brand Registry and a clear authorized reseller policy, then trace where the leaked inventory comes from and close that source. Brand Registry tools handle counterfeit and listing abuse. Distribution agreements handle authorized resellers who break the rules.
Do we need our own warehouse to sell direct?
No, but you need someone who can receive pallets from the plant, prep for Amazon FBA and ship direct orders. We run our own 3PL warehouse in Kansas City for exactly that, so inventory, prep and marketplace management sit with one team.
What does it cost to work with Marknology?
